Play DA2 on hard and you'll be glad theres no freindly fire, its punishing enough. Combat in DA:O may have been a bit more "tactical" but it would also get very stale with the same exact execution of skills being used in the same order against every mob.

I'll admit that the lack of friendly fire seems to be a move to make the game more console friendly, however the combat is way more dynamic in Dragon Age 2 with enemy reinforcements coming in from all sides. To be fair, the "tactics" in Origins didnt account for friendly fire and alot of people found the combat difficult when Morrigan started blasting thier own party with cone of cold. There is no friendly fire, which alot of people hated. The tactical combat is virtualy identical to DA:O except the camera is locked to a character (which can be a bit annoying) but by rotating and angling the camera, it is functionaly identical. It does have slightly better graphics and a better ui, and mark of the assassin is good standalone dlc which I'd recommend.
